  5. This was a bit of an underwhelming Batman tale I love the dark and eerie side to some of Batman s stories, however this seems to have missed the mark for me This story involves some very dark themes such as satanism and sacrifice These dark elements do not bother me at all, in fact I love horror movies However, this felt like it wasnt part of Batmans world to me These themes can be amazing when used in the right world In this story, the mob contacts Batman to help them stop a man who they killed [...]

  6. Pretty good story here if uneven the occult and supernatural elements reminded me of some of the stories written in the 1970s where some Batman stories explored similar themes The art added to the moody atmosphere Harsher than some of the work written about Batman some brutality and adult themes just so you know what you re buying but all in all a riveting story with decent art that compliments the text and in a sense hearkens back to the 70 s stories some of which had horror or occult undertone [...]

  7. The supernatural elements do not fit the old silver age like noir art of the comic Morrison is up to Morrison s weirdness, which is interesting to what it does to the Batman mythos, but the Wayne s acceptance of occult elements without struggle seems out of step with what we know about Wayne from other comics Jenson s art does seem like at odd fit, but it is still a very interesting run in a nice volume.

  8. One of my favorite Batman stories of all time I was excited to learn that they were re releasing a hardcover version of Gothic and I pre ordered immediately My only disappointment was that they went with a new modern cover image dust jacket for this edition which really doesn t match with the early 90s art style Wish they had stuck with the original cover.

  9. Comic visionary Grant Morrison The Filth, JLA, New X Men c mon already, you know the list came up with this Batman tale, taking place in Bruce Wayne s early part of his career as Batman Gothic follows Batman investigating just who is picking off mobsters in Gotham City, one of which claims that it s a man who won t stay dead What this spells for Batman is locked in his own past, as he has nightmares about his father with his lips sewn shut, trying to warn him of something purely evil While not n [...]
